According to the Mahabharata, when Krishna injured his finger while beheading the tyrant Shishupala with his Sudarshana Chakra, Draupadi tore a piece of her silk sari and tied it around his bleeding finger. Touched by her unhesitating affection, Krishna pledged to protect her honor across any adversity—a promise he fulfilled during the assembly at Hastinapur.
