इतिहास एवं उत्पत्ति

देवता: Srimati Radharani, Lord Krishna

According to the Padma Purana and Brahmavaivarta Purana, King Vrishabhanu found the baby Radha resting upon a blooming golden lotus flower in a pond in Raval, near Barsana. Because she wished her first earthly vision to be none other than Lord Krishna, she kept her eyes closed until young Krishna appeared before her cradle, at which moment she opened her luminous eyes for the first time.

Unconditional, unmotivated devotional surrender (Prema Bhakti); the recognition that grace is the feminine compassionate bridge to the divine.

Devotees observe a strict fast until midday. At noon (Madhyahna), an extensive Maha-Abhishekam of Sri Radha’s deity is performed using milk, honey, fruit juices, and fragrant herb water, followed by singing the Radha Kripa Kataksha Stotra.

FAQ

Why is the fast for Radhashtami concluded at noon instead of midnight?

Unlike Lord Krishna who manifested at the stroke of midnight, Srimati Radharani appeared during the bright noon hour (Madhyahna), marking midday as the peak of celebration.

What is the theological relationship between Krishna and Radha?

In Gaudiya and Vaishnava philosophy, Krishna and Radha are one soul manifested in two forms—Krishna is the divine energetic source (Shaktiman), and Radha is his supreme internal pleasure potency (Hladini Shakti).
