Buddha Purnima commemorates the thrice-blessed milestone of Gautama Buddha: his birth as Prince Siddhartha, his attainment of supreme enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, and his final Mahaparinirvana. The day emphasizes non-violence, mindfulness, and contemplation.

After renouncing princely comforts and exploring extreme austerities, Siddhartha realized the truth of the Middle Path (Madhyamaka). Seated beneath the sacred Pipal tree in Bodh Gaya on the Vaishakha full moon, he penetrated the nature of suffering and achieved Nirvana, uncovering the Four Noble Truths.
Ahimsa (non-harming), detachment from cyclic desire, cultivated awareness, and active compassion toward all sentient beings.
Offering milk, fruit, and sweet rice porridge (Kheer) in remembrance of Sujata's offering to Siddhartha. Devotees recite the Dhammapada, observe extended seated meditation, and bathe Buddha idols with scented water.
