When and why

Traditional timing rule

Observed weekly on Tuesdays (dedicated to Lord Hanuman) or Saturdays (dedicated to Lord Shani).

This rule describes traditional recurrence only. Use a reliable place-specific Panchang for an occurrence date.

Practice outline

  • Consume a simple vegetarian meal or specific items such as jaggery and roasted gram (*chana*) on Tuesdays, or black sesame and mustard oil charity on Saturdays.
  • Visit temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman or Lord Shani during evening hours.
  • Practice acts of service, charity to the underprivileged, and physical discipline.

Restraint and alternatives

  • Avoid table salt on strict Tuesday fasts or heavy, processed, non-vegetarian foods on either day.
  • Avoid procrastination, laziness, or injustice toward others, which displeases Saturn and Mars.
  • Do not consume food before completing the daily worship or evening charity.

Completion and reflection

Validated by completing the weekly dietary restriction, offering prayers to Hanuman or Shani, and engaging in acts of discipline and charity.
