Theological significance
Goddess Sati's throat (Kanta) fell inside the high Himalayan glacial cave of Amarnath. It is the sacred sanctuary where Lord Shiva narrated the 'Amar Katha' (secret of immortality) to Goddess Parvati. Within the cave, the Divine Mother is venerated as Maa Mahamaya alongside the self-manifested ice Lingam of Lord Shiva.
