Theological significance
Goddess Sati's left arm fell on these cliff faces surrounded by seven mountain peaks ('Sapta-Shringa'). The Goddess manifested here with eighteen arms (Ashtadasa Bhuja) holding divine weapons given by the gods to destroy Mahishasura, making it one of Maharashtra's three-and-a-half Shaktipeeths.
