Traditional timing rule

Observed on the full moon day (Purnima) of every lunar month.

This rule describes traditional recurrence only. Use a reliable place-specific Panchang for an occurrence date.

Practice outline

  • Observe a sattvic fast throughout the day, participating in evening storytelling (*Satyanarayan Katha*).
  • Prepare and offer consecrated sweets (*sheera* or *panchamrit*) to the deity.
  • Invite family, friends, and neighbors to share the prayer and prasad.

Restraint and alternatives

  • Avoid consuming grains, heavy meals, or non-vegetarian items before the evening ritual is complete.
  • Avoid falsehood, dishonesty, or breaking promises made during the observance.
  • Do not consume or distribute prasad without completing the formal puja and katha.

Completion and reflection

Validated by successfully performing the evening Satyanarayan Katha, offering the prasad to family and guests, and breaking the fast thereafter.
