Theological significance

Goddess Sati's forehead fell on the banks of the sacred Gandaki River, source of the holy Shaligram stones. Known as Mukti Kshetra ('Place of Salvation'), it is a syncretic sanctuary where Hindus worship Goddess Gandaki and Lord Vishnu (Muktinath), while Tibetan Buddhists venerate the shrine as Chumig Gyatsa.
