- Clean bronze plate (Kansa/Thali) and raw Rice (Akshat)
- Honey (Madhu) and Gold ring/spoon for Sparsha
- New clothes for mother and child (preferably yellow/pink)
- Betel leaf (Paan), Roli, Sandalwood paste
- Diya, Incense, and Sweet Pudding (Kheer/Halwa)
Step-by-step procedure
Step 1
Sun Exposure & Surya Namaskar (Surya Darshan)
Shastri Ji says: Wrap the baby comfortably in new clean clothes. The father or uncle briefly presents the child to the morning Sun rays to absorb vital vitality (Prana energy).
ॐ सूर्याय नमःॐ भास्कराय नमः
Step 2
Rice Plate Name Writing (Akshat Lekhan)
Spread raw unbroken rice evenly across a clean metal plate. Using a turmeric stick or gold ring, write the chosen Nakshatra (astrological) name and popular name on the bed of rice.
ॐ श्री गणेशाय नमः
Step 3
Whispering the Name in Right Ear (Karna Jap)
The father or mother places a betel leaf over the baby's right ear to focus sound, and gently whispers the chosen name 3 times into the ear, followed by 'May you live a hundred healthy years'.
त्वं वेदांसि... (दीर्घायुर्भव शुभमस्तु)
Step 4
Madhu Prashan & Kheer Bhog
Touch a tiny drop of pure honey mixed with ghee using a golden ring gently to the child's tongue. Offer Kheer to Goddess Shashti and Kuldevata, then elders bless the child with Akshat.
ॐ आयुष्मान भव।
