Goddess Mariamman (Manifestation of Goddess Parvati / Durga for protection and health)

Founded in 1827 by Naraina Pillai, it is the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore. Goddess Mariamman is revered as the compassionate mother who protects immigrants, cures illnesses, grants good health, and maintains social harmony in a multicultural city-state.
Architecture & structure
Classical South Indian Dravidian Architecture
Features a striking 6-tiered Gopuram (entrance tower) densely carved with colorful sculptures of Hindu deities, mythological figures, and Sepoy soldiers from colonial history. The inner sanctum is flanked by shrines dedicated to Lord Rama, Murugan, Ganesha, and Draupadi Amman.

Dress code & guidelines
Strict modest dress code enforced. Shoulders and knees must be completely covered for all visitors. Footwear must be removed at the outer entrance. Shorts, short skirts, and tank tops are strictly prohibited inside.
