Theological significance
Goddess Sati's spine fell at the southernmost tip of mainland India. Worshipped as the virgin Goddess Kanyakumari, she performed intense tapasya to marry Lord Shiva and destroy the demon Banasura. Her brilliant diamond nose-ring is renowned for illuminating the ocean and guiding seafaring ships.
