Begin with reverence—let the deity’s presence settle before you read on.

01

Theological significance

Lord Shiva manifested here to slay the tyrant demon Bhima (son of Kumbhakarna). After vanquishing the demon, the sweat from Shiva's body poured down the mountain peak to form the sacred Bhima River. It is situated within the lush Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary.

The sanctum

A classic Nagara-cum-Hemadpanthi dark stone temple. The low garbha griha houses a thick, double-formed Swayambhu Jyotirlinga continuously fed by a small natural water spring.

A pilgrimage is fulfilled not only by reaching the shrine, but by arriving inwardly— with gratitude, patience, and a quiet mind.
