Krishna and Sudama

Characters: Lord Krishna, Sudama

Once upon a time, in the sacred ashram of Sage Sandipani, Lord Krishna and a young boy named Sudama studied together as the closest of friends. They shared meals, firewood duties, and endless laughs. Years later, Krishna grew up to be the majestic king of Dwarka, while Sudama lived a life of extreme simplicity and quiet poverty. One day, Sudama's wife gently urged him to visit his old friend for help. Sudama hesitated—how could he go to a royal king empty-handed? He gathered a tiny handful of humble, flattened rice (poha) in a worn-out cloth to offer. When Sudama reached the magnificent palace gates, the royal guards were stunned by his tattered clothes, but when Krishna heard his friend's name, he sprinted barefoot down the marble steps, embraced Sudama with tears of pure joy, and pulled him inside. Krishna joyfully ate the humble poha with unbridled delight, showering his friend with unimaginable grace, luxury, and most importantly, unconditional love. Sudama returned home to find his humble cottage transformed into a palace of abundance, but realized that Krishna's true gift was the warmth of an unchanged heart.
