Chapter 1

Appearance of Lingodbhava and Glory of Shiva Lingam

At the beginning of creation, Brahma and Vishnu entered a cosmic debate over supremacy. To dissolve their pride, Lord Shiva appeared as an infinite column of cosmic light and fire (Jyotirlinga). Brahma flew upward as a swan to find its top, while Vishnu dug downward as a boar to find its base. Neither could find its end. Vishnu humbly acknowledged his limitation, while Brahma lied using a Ketaki flower as false witness. Shiva emerged from the pillar, forgave Vishnu for his truthfulness, and stripped Brahma of ritual worship, establishing that the Shiva Lingam represents the infinite, formless Supreme Truth.
