The Pooja Room (Dhyana Kaksha) is the spiritual powerhouse and energetic lighthouse of the home. It is where human consciousness communes with cosmic divinity. A properly consecrated pooja sanctuary purifies the domestic atmosphere, radiates peaceful vibrations, and shields the family from external psychic turbulence.

The Northeast quadrant receives the purest, highest-frequency morning sunlight and cosmic radiation. Free of thermal heat and atmospheric pollution, this zone fosters theta brainwave states necessary for deep meditation, neuro-cardiac coherence, and acoustic resonance during Vedic chanting.
Zone Northeast (Ishan)
Reasoning The supreme throne of divinity and cosmic intelligence. Bestows deep peace, divine intuition, and spiritual grace.
Zone East (Purva)
Reasoning Governed by the rising Sun; brings intellectual brilliance, high vitality, and social grace.
Zone North (Uttar)
Reasoning Governed by Lord Kubera; fosters righteous wealth, purity, and spiritual devotion.
While praying, chanting, or performing Aarti, the devotee should always face East (preferred) or North. Consequently, sacred idols should face West or South.
Permissible with Strict Conditions
If spatial constraints in urban flats leave no dedicated room, a small wooden mandir can be positioned in the Northeast corner of the kitchen, provided strictly vegetarian food is prepared in that household.
The mandir must have closing cabinet doors or a silk curtain drawn across it while cooking is underway, and it must sit at least 3 feet above and away from the gas stove and sink.
Strictly Prohibited by Shastra
Devatas represent immortal cosmic principles of light; Pitris represent mortal souls who have crossed the threshold of physical death. Mixing ancestral photos with deities in the Northeast creates spiritual discord. Ancestor portraits belong on the South or Southwest wall of the home.
Relocate ancestral photos to the South wall of the living room or hallway.
Perform Respectful Water Immersion (Visarjan)
A chipped or fractured deity idol can no longer hold balanced geometric and pranic resonance. Keeping damaged idols in the mandir invites restless thoughts and domestic tension.
Wrap the broken idol in clean white or red cloth and respectfully immerse it in a natural flowing river, ocean, or bury it beneath a sacred Peepal or Banyan tree.
In studio or 1BHK flats, install a floor-to-ceiling carved wooden Jali screen in the Northeast to demarcate a distinct consecrated temple sanctuary.
Ensure the pooja mandir has a triangular or pyramidal dome (Gopuram / Shikhar) on top to naturally concentrate and radiate cosmic pyramidal energy.
Daily morning and evening lighting of pure cow ghee lamps and burning natural Bhimseni camphor purges negative airborne ions and elevates domestic spiritual frequency.
