Theological significance
According to legend, the last remaining fingers of Goddess Sati's body fell at Prayag. The name 'Alopi' means 'the one who disappeared', signifying that her divine body vanished at this point. It sits at the sacred confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers.
