Diligence, Focus & Doing One's Best

Udyoginam Purushasimham (Panchatantra - The Reward of Diligent Effort)

उद्यमेन हि सिध्यन्ति कार्याणि न मनोरथैः । न हि सुप्तस्य सिंहस्य प्रविशन्ति मुखे मृगाः ॥

Udyamena Hi Sidhyanti Kāryāṇi Na Manorathaiḥ | Na Hi Suptasya Siṃhasya Praviśanti Mukhe Mṛgāḥ ||

Simple meaning

Tasks and goals are accomplished through diligent effort, never by mere daydreaming. Even into the mouth of a sleeping lion, food does not walk in on its own.

For kids

Even a mighty lion has to get up and hunt to eat! Wishing for good grades or to become a great chess player won't work by just wishing—we have to open the board, sit at the desk, and practice.

Big idea

Overcoming procrastination, understanding practice makes progress, and daily consistency.
