Significance

Rama Navami celebrates the birth of Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu, in Ayodhya. Revered as the pinnacle of virtuous conduct, the day is marked by recitations of the Ramayana, temple rath yatras, and mid-day celebrations commemorating his divine birth.

History & origins

According to the Valmiki Ramayana, King Dasharatha performed the sacred Putrakameshti Yajna under Sage Rishyashringa. The sacred payasam from the sacrificial fire was shared among queens Kausalya, Kaikeyi, and Sumitra; on Navami tithi during the Madhyahna (noon) hour, Lord Rama manifested to establish Dharma and vanquish the tyranny of Ravana.
