Dattatreya Jayanti celebrates the manifestation of Lord Dattatreya, the synthesis of the Trimurti (Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva). When the celestial trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva arrived to test the famed chastity and spiritual power of Sage Atri's wife, Anasuya, she transformed them into infant babes and nurtured them with maternal love. Delighted by her purity, the deities merged their divine essences to take birth as her son Dattatreya, depicted with three heads, six arms, an auspicious cow representing Mother Earth, and four accompanying dogs representing the four Vedas.
